Outdoor Apparel company Westcomb is unlike many other brands, as it designs and manufacturers its products at its own factory in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The founders of the 2005-born company spent the majority of their time skiing, snowboarding, climbing, paragliding, biking, and hiking in the Canadian Rockies. According to the website, “After many years of working in the technical outdoor gear industry we [were] determined to start a premium-quality, all-mountain apparel line based on no-compromise function in any condition, comfortable fit-on-body, and style for life on the go.”
Michael Collin from Pale Morning Media said the line incorporates a lot of the technology used in sleeping bags into its outerwear. Another technology used in some of the new jackets is PrimaLoft Gold, which is 70 percent down and 30 percent synthetic.
Westcomb was heavily reliant upon athlete feedback while designing the products.
“So we went to work, from the Whistler chair lift to the Cain hut in the Bugaboos asking our friends—guides, industry professionals, outdoor enthusiasts, folks like you—what their ultimate garment would be. At the end of the day, it came down to comfortable fabric, artisan workmanship, and no-gimmicks functionality. And it had to work, really work.”
