Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) has announced that Chris Landers has been named Associate Editor for BoatUS Publications. Landers, an award-winning feature writer who has written for national publications, will be tasked to develop stories on a wide range of boating topics, assist the editorial team with filing department news items, and preparing copy for BoatUS Magazine and BoatUS Trailering Magazine.

Landers’ writing credits have included National Geographic News, The Christian Science Monitor, Professional Mariner, and Canadian Motorcycle Guide and he’s also a former staffer at the Baltimore City Paper and a former writer with the Center for Public Integrity. From 1998-2002, he worked as a deckhand, engineer and carpenter aboard tall ships. He was a shipwright on the USS Constellation, and has two Atlantic crossings under his belt aboard the Pride of Baltimore II as a deckhand. He’s taught English at the Community College of Baltimore County, and he’s won several Boating Writers International awards.

In his spare time, Landers rides his dual-sport motorcycle on extended camping trips to remote locations, often on unpaved roads and trails. His most recent adventure was a solo, unassisted tour to the far reaches of the sparsely populated Eastern Canadian Maritimes.

“Chris is such an entertaining writer,” said BoatUS Editorial Director Bernadette Bernon. “He’s able to capture the human element, and find the humor or the pathos in every story he undertakes.
