Lay Day Called for Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast

After four consecutive days of action, event organizers have opted for a lay day for the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover. The opening stop on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast has enjoyed non-stop action since the opening day of the waiting period, but onshore winds and a decreasing swell have forced event organizers to call competition off for the day.

“The swell is on the decrease and the onshore winds are scheduled to get worse throughout the day so we’ve called a lay day,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “I cannot remember a time when we’ve ran the first four days of a combined event and we’re in a good position to capitalize on the remainder of the waiting period. The swell forecast for this weekend looks promising but we’ll be back tomorrow morning to assess conditions and make a call then.”

Event organizers will reconvene at 6:30am tomorrow to assess conditions for a possible 7:30am start.
