Tahquamenon Falls State Park Offers “Hike Between Da Falls” for National Trails Day in Michigan

Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Paradise is celebrating National Trails Day on Saturday, June 1 with a special “Hike Between Da Falls,” beginning at 9 a.m. Participants are encouraged to take a free shuttle from the Lower Falls to the Upper Falls, where they will begin the five-mile hike back to the Lower Falls along the scenic River Trail.

The River Trail parallels the beautiful Tahquamenon River, and is also part of the North Country National Scenic Trail. The shuttle will run every 30 minutes between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Outdoor activities, nature crafts and more will be offered all day at both the Upper and Lower Falls.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park, located on M-123 west of Paradise in Chippewa County, is the second-largest state park in Michigan. For more information, contact the park at (906) 492-3415 or visit www.michigan.gov/tahquamenonfalls.

There is no registration required for this event and no cost to participate; however, a Recreation Passport is required to enter the park.

The Recreation Passport is an easy, affordable way for residents to enjoy and support outdoor recreation opportunities in Michigan. By checking “YES” for the $11 Recreation Passport ($5 for motorcycles) when renewing a license plate through the Secretary of State (by mail, kiosk, online at www.expresssos.com or at branch offices), Michigan motorists get access to state parks, recreation areas, state forest campgrounds, nonmotorized state trailhead parking and state boat launches. In addition, Recreation Passport holders can enjoy real savings at businesses and retailers that participate in the Passport Perks discount program. The Recreation Passport is valid until the next license plate renewal date. Nonresidents can purchase the Recreation Passport ($30.50 annual; $8.40 daily) at any state park or recreation area or through the Michigan e-Store at www.michigan.gov/estore.
