The first installation of Torqeedo’s Deep Blue 40 horsepower electric outboard motor has been completed on a newly redesigned Calypso Classic skiff. The Calypso Classic hull, built and used in the Caribbean for generations, is now elegantly paired with state-of-the-art Torqeedo electric propulsion.
While the 80 hp Deep Blue requires two high-voltage batteries, the new 40 hp option requires just one. This saves money, weight and space in the boat and the motor is field-upgradable to 80 hp simply by adding another battery and updating the software. This powerful zero-emission electric drive insulates the consumer from ever higher gasoline costs and is cleaner for the waters they enjoy.
The redesigned Calypso hull has a slightly wider beam, while retaining its seaworthiness and attractive lines. The trademark upswept bow allows the skiff to gracefully and efficiently cut through waves, keeping passengers dry. This classic design allows for a shallow draft and deep sea capabilities, and reduces power requirements.
At full throttle, the Calypso can reach speeds of over 20 mph, and achieves 12 mph on a slow plane for one hour. A 6 mph no-wake speed provides four hours of runtime. A complete recharge can be obtained in as little as four hours with common 120V AC/30 amp shore power service and uses approximately $1.50 worth of electricity.
The list price of the Calypso Classic packaged with a Torqeedo 40 hp Deep Blue is $64,900. For sales inquiries or more information, contact Capt. Todd at E Power Marine at 561-613-2737 or www.epowermarine.com.
