Big Agnes Introduces Expanded Apparel Line, New Tent

Big Agnes used tech from its sleeping bags in the expansion of its outerwear line.

Outdoor company Big Agnes has many new products under the brand that will be released next fall, including a four-season tent, a four-season bivy, and an entire line of apparel.

“This is the first tent to use cocona technology (now called thirtysevenfive), and the advantage of using this fabric is the moisture transport,” said Carl Johnson from Backbone Media at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. “With single-wall tents, obviously one of the biggest issues is that you get moisture build-up just from sleeping, and with this we found that it really cuts down on that.

To assist with moisture release, there are two vents at the top of the tent.

In addition to the added technology, the tent weighs a little less than four pounds, making it perfect for backpacking trips, while still being a fully-secure storm shelter.

“We had this tent in a wind tunnel over in Asia through one of our partners, and had the winds up to 100 mph, and this thing didn’t collapse at all,” Johnson said. “It was pretty incredible how well it stood up.”

Another product from Big Agnes, the Double Z air pad that goes under a sleeping bag, was awarded the Backpacker Editor’s Choice Award for 2014.

In addition to the camping equipment, a lot of attention was placed on expanding the outerwear line this year.

“There’s two categories of lines, essentially—the down line, which is all DownTek, water repellant down, and then a synthetic line that uses Pinneco Core synthetic insulation, and it’s the only apparel line out there right now to use Pinneco Core,” Johnson said.

The apparel line includes a number of jackets with hoods and without, vests, and even skirts.
