For the past two years, the team at Marbel has been focused on creating the most effective mode of transportation for short commutes. The result? The world’s lightest electric skateboard.
The Marbel Electric Skateboard weighs a mere 9.9 pounds, which is lighter than any other electric vehicle in the world. It’s capable of moving at a speed of 20 mph uphill and can travel 10 miles per charge. Reliant upon the use of a handheld remote as well as accompanying app, the team wanted to make sure the product was as customizable as possible. To gain funding for the skateboards, Marbel took to Kickstarter.
The Kickstarter campaign will be open through June 19, but it has already raised more than $188,000. The initial goal was only $90,000.
“Whether it is commuting to work, getting to the subway or bus stop, running errands, or trying to just get across a college campus, short trips and urban travel have always been frustrating. In a car we deal with traffic, parking, and of course rising fuel costs. On a bicycle, we work up a sweat and then have to find a safe place to lock up,” the Kickstarter page reads. “We felt there had to be a better way to handle these short trips.”
