People with at least some athletic ability can usually learn the basics of skiing without too much difficulty. However, moving from the bunny hill to the double black diamonds can be quite the journey. Luckily, there are a number of things that you can do to improve your skiing if you would like to become a better skier. Here are some of the most helpful of these things.
Avoid leaning back
Leaning back is one of the most common mistakes made by novice skiers. While it may be tempting to lean back at times when you are skiing, leaning back moves your center of gravity up and makes it harder to balance and control your movements. So, instead, remember to bend your knees, and lean slightly forward.
Take a lesson
The benefit of taking a ski lesson is that the person who is teaching you can look at your form and critique it. They can tell you what you are doing wrong and what you are doing right. Taking a lesson is one of the single best ways to become a better skier.
Gradually progress to more and more difficult trails
Obviously, when you first start skiing, you do not want to head straight for the black diamonds. If you do, then you could soon find yourself in a lot of trouble and possibly even injured. Instead, you want to gradually progress to the more difficult trails. If you gradually progress, then you will be able to keep improving your form while you get the experience required to get better at handling steeper and more difficult trails.
Ski with friends who are better than you
The benefit of doing this is that can learn from them. You can watch their form and how they carve and you can just try to imitate them. The better that your friends are at skiing, the more that you can learn from them. They can also give you pointers, which is also beneficial.
