For two years, the Arc’teryx Grotto toque has been a go-to for winter days, and the brand is building off of that with its first print in the Freeride collection: Grottoflage. Available on nine products for fall/winter 2024, this collection pairs timeless colors with unique prints across men’s and women’s lines, including the Sentinel Jacket, Sabre Pant and Jacket, and Rho base layers.
“We dissected our logo and created a textural pattern by layering the elements in shades of grey and black,” said Philip O’Sullivan, Arc’teryx’s director of color and graphics. “Grottoflage is our take on a camouflage-style print and was inspired by the success of our coveted Grotto toque. We iterated on the concept countless times to perfect the visual, obsessing over every mark.”
Arc’teryx said the Grottoflage print design process begins with a ground color, overlaid with the company’s logo through screen-printing. The design team then “adopted a holistic, multi-seasonal approach to the Grottoflage collection. Guests can expect to see future evolutions of the Grottoflage print with evolution in colour, tone and contrast,” the company said in a statement.
As an extended part of the Grottoflage collection, Arc’teryx is partnering with winter-sports-equipment brand Atomic to launch a limited-edition ski in the same print: the Atomic Maverick 115 CTI Arc’teryx Edition. Merging Arc’teryx’s maker DNA with Atomic’s technical expertise, the Grottoflage freeride collection and limited-edition ski honors the brand’s shared passion for adventure. Both brands are part of the Finland-based Amer Sports portfolio.
“Born in the mountains, this limited-edition ski stands as a testament to Atomic and Arc’teryx’s shared dedication to the alpine spirit,” the company said. “Built to honor the mountains that inspire us, this ski was developed alongside Atomic and Arc’teryx athlete Craig Murray.”
Grottoflage clothing is printed on nylon face fabrics, ensuring a more premium design that is built to last. Arc’teryx designers focused extensively on testing Grottoflage’s colorfastness, which tests how well a fabric keeps its color without fading or running, even when exposed to factors like washing, sunlight, or sweat.
The Grottoflage Freeride collection has become available online today, and is accessible in a very limited selection of retail stores in Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, and Washington, D.C.
The Atomic Maverick 115 CTI Arc’teryx Edition ski will be available in limited quantities on atomic.com beginning Nov 11.
