Lower White Oak Lake in Ouachita and Nevada counties will be closed to public access beginning Tuesday, May 1. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is in the midst of a two-year project to renovate the lake after the lake’s water control structure failed. It is necessary to close the lake to insure the public’s safety and provide AGFC staff and contractors room to work on repairs to the structure.
The extensive renovations include numerous habitat improvement projects, repairing the damaged water control structure and restocking the fishery with Florida largemouth bass. As a result of the renovation project, anglers can expect to experience a renewed lake fishery within a few years.
None of these changes affect Upper White Oak Lake, which is located south of Arkansas Highway 387. To volunteer with the lake clean-up events or habitat improvement projects, please contact the Camden Regional Office at 870- 836-4612.
