The biggest struggle for backpackers is weight. So one simple tick I use to ensure I have the power food to move forward up the tail while also cutting down on weight is oatmeal packets.
When backpacking, oatmeal can be eaten with just a plastic spoon. Simply boil water (or heat to preference) and pour it in an individual oatmeal pouch. Be sure to buy individual pouches that have a wax based inner liner and you are good to go. No dishes to clean up and very little to pack out.
