ASHLAND, Ore. — A zebra mussel managed to travel halfway across the country, but was stopped before it could reach Oregon waters.
According to an article it the Detroit News, the invasive mussel attached itself to a15-foot Boston Whaler in Michigan, and was trailered by a new owner to Oregon. The mussel was discovered at a voluntary inspection in Oregon.
The boat was decontaminated with a hot-water pressure wash and the owner was not fined or punished.
This is the first zebra mussel found in Oregon.
