ALEXANDRIA, Va.- Marinas across the country are laying down the red carpet on Saturday June 11, for National Marina Day. The goal of the daylong event is to show the public how marinas are family-friendly gateways to water recreation, are important economic contributors to local communities, and are good stewards of the environment.
Anyone with a love for the water is encouraged to visit their local marina and check out the special opportunities and events taking place. A list of participating marinas can be found at nationalmarinaday.org/about/participating-marinas. A sampling of activities scheduled include: boating and fishing demos, boating safety demonstrations, vessel safety checks, kids’ activities, raffles, giveaways, facility tours, and visits by BoatUS tow boats.
Also on this day, the nation’s largest boat owners group, BoatUS, is urging all boat owners to take someone out for a short ride or a few hours of boating, fishing or sailing to help grow recreational boating.
National Marina Day is sponsored by the Association of Marina Industries, ValvTect Marine Fuels, Premiere Materials, Marina Dock Age magazine, Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, Eaton, and the BoatUS Cooperating Marina program which offers discounts on fuel, transient slips and repairs to BoatUS members.
