Grand Canyon, Ariz. – At approximately 7:22 a.m. on Monday, October 3, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report from the South Entrance Station of a “motor home” with smoke in the cab. The vehicle was located at the Grand Canyon National Park sign just south of the entrance to the park.
When they arrived on scene, firefighters found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames and proceeded to work on extinguishing the fire.
After the fire was extinguished, initial investigations revealed that the RV had been occupied at the time of the fire and fatalities had occurred. Rangers are now waiting for the Coconino County Medical Examiner to arrive to assist them in determining the number of fatalities.
The National Park Service will be conducting an investigation into the incident with the assistance of the Flagstaff Fire Department and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
