    Colorado’s Roxborough State Park to Host Naturalist Guided Activities in November

    Littleton, Colo. – Come join the fun, learn about nature and watch Roxborough State Park change with the season. Park naturalists will lead you on a journey of discovery through our guided hikes and activities. Programs are free, however, please remember that all vehicles entering the park must purchase a $7 daily pass or display a $70 annual pass. Unless otherwise indicated, programs require reservations.     11/5/2011: A Visit to Mountain Jeannie’s

    Join naturalist Peter Laux on a visit to Mountain Jeannie’s house at Trail’s End, a 5.5 mile out-and-back hike on Elk Valley Trail. Hear Jeannie’s interesting life story with old photos shown on an iPad. This hike is moderately strenuous. Bring water, lunch, and clothing appropriate.

    Join naturalist Betsy Healy to learn how Prickly Pear cactus and Soap Weed yucca were useful to our Native Americans. Come taste prickly pear jelly!

    Step off the Fountain Valley Trail and into the early 1900s with volunteer naturalists while you tour the nationally registered historic home of Henry Persse.

    Join naturalist Mary-Margaret Coates for a look at the sandstone patio and learn about the fascinating origins of the Lyons Formation at Roxborough and along the Front Range.

    Learn how to capture the beauty of Roxborough’s buildings, landscape, and foliage using a variety of techniques. Naturalist Phyllis Vandehaar will provide guidance and demonstrations. Space is limited, call for materials list.

    11/19/2011: Every Hike is a GREAT One at Roxborough

    Join naturalist Deb Wright for a hike up South Rim Trail. See Fall’s changing colors and experience the rejuvenating effect of Winter’s crisp air. Time spent on this trail will lift you physically, mentally, & spiritually. This is a moderate 3-mile round trip hike. Dress for the weather and bring water/snack.

    11/19/2011: Can You See What I See?

    Join naturalist Lee Heflebower on a personally guided tour of the wonders of Roxborough State Park, and look for the hidden objects in the rocks. An emphasis is placed on using your visual senses and your imagination. Come see the geology and wildlife at Roxborough!
