Whether racking up frequent flier miles or racking up for a technical alpine climb, Gregory has you covered with its Fall 2012 product lineup. The new series of Border packs are designed for everyday use with innovative features for travelers, and the new Alpinisto is a complete redesign of a beloved mountaineering pack.
“We applied our years of experience building the world’s best backpacks to enter the travel luggage market last year,” states John Sears, director of product development at Gregory. “The Axis Travel Series has been successful and we’re excited to expand the collection with a line of highly-functional travel backpacks designed for both convenience at the airport and carrying around town.”
The Border travel pack will be available in three volumes ranging from 18 to 35 liters. All three models feature an innovative “butterfly” opening that is TSA compatible to allow the bag to go through security screenings without the hassle and delay of removing electronics. The 18L version was designed to fit 13-inch laptops as well as other tablet-sized devices, while the 25L and the 35L versions comfortably carry 15-inch and 17-inch laptops respectively. Uniquely, the back panel easily integrates with the existing Gregory wide handled luggage to create a fully integrated system for the savvy traveler. Additional compartments and interior organizing pockets make the backpack extremely versatile for anything from a coffee shop run to an international business trip.
In addition to packs for everyday travel, Gregory introduces the redesigned Alpinisto, a mountaineering pack that was first launched in the early 1980’s.
“The Alpinisto has been a favorite among guides and pros for years and we approached the redesign knowing that we were messing with a classic,” notes lead pack designer CJ Whittaker. “We made a lot of substantial improvements in the suspension, the materials and the overall feature set so that we’re confident the new Alpinisto will meet the needs of the most demanding mountaineers.”
Available in 35L and 50L sizes, the new Alpinsto is designed for professional mountaineers and serious athletes who demand exceptional performance from their gear in tough, alpine conditions. Built on Gregory’s brand new Fusion Flex suspension, the Alpinisto can comfortably carry up to 35 pounds. Features include a fully-stowable crampon pocket on the outside of the pack, constructed from durable TPU to protect from sharp crampon points; an ice tool attachment system that is compatible with all modern tool head designs; and sled-pull attachment points that are integrated into the waist belt to create a stable pulling platform for big loads en route to basecamp. For even more versatility, the waist belt padding, frame sheet, stay and included bivy pad can be removed to reduce the packs weight by 35%, delivering a 2 pound “stripped” version of the pack for weight-conscious alpinists.
