Performance eyewear brand, REVO, is pleased to announce its partnership with SUP athlete Gillian Gibree. Gibree has consistently been a top five finisher at both the Battle of the Paddle Hawaii and California, the two pre-eminent races of the year for SUP, as well as a member of the winning relay team in Hawaii. Gibree, among other highlights, was also a SUP Athlete of the Year Nominee by SUP Magazine in 2011. She will be competing in the ISA World SUP and Paddle Championships as a member of Team USA in Lima, Peru this week. This year, she will be wearing REVO sunglasses as she enters the 2012 competitive season.
The level of stress placed on a stand up paddler’s vision while on the water can be severe, accounting for the amount of glare off the water and the sunlight exposure from above. With the high contrast polarization and protection that REVO eyewear provides, the partnership between Gillian and REVO is a natural one. For 2012, Gibree will be using the new REVO Water lens as she sets her sights on a busy competition schedule.
“The first time I tried REVO sunglasses was at the Catalina SUP Festival and I was amazed by the quality,” said Gibree. “As an on-water athlete you need to have the best lenses to protect your eyes. Clarity is also important so that you have the most accurate possible vision while competing. The clarity during the entire race was perfect, even with the wind and chop. Spending that much time in your glasses, in varied conditions, they need to be comfortable too – and REVO nailed it!”
The Water lens sets the standard for on-water eyewear due to high contrast polarization that is tailored to the specific light-absorbance profile of ocean water. REVO has engineered the Water lens to eliminate glare while adjusting for the blues that are reflected in and around water, allowing the wearer to see more naturally balanced colors and making them the ideal choice for any water activities.
REVO partners with ambassadors that have a passion for adventure and exploration, but also have a humanitarian aim; Gibree is no exception. She recently launched her own SUP yoga business, Paddle Into Fitness that was nominated for Best Yoga in San Diego. Gibree is also releasing a line of women’s specific SUP all-around boards this summer with SUP Company. In her home state of Massachusetts, Gillian participates annually in the Cape Cod Bay Challenge, a 36 mile paddle across the bay that raises money for Christopher’s Haven, a non-profit organization that helps provide housing for children and their families during treatment at the Boston Children’s Hospital.
Gibree joins like-minded company on the REVO Ambassador team, which currently includes adventure photographer, Jimmy Chin, polar explorer and global warming environmental advocate Sebastian Copeland, global water advocate and founder of Blue Legacy International, Alexandra Cousteau, as well as veteran surf legend, Wayne Lynch.
