Julbo, a long-standing pioneer in mountain eyewear, is proud to support backcountry skiing on the East Coast with its sponsorship of the 10th annual Adirondack Backcountry Ski Festival in Keene Valley, N.Y. March 3-4. Julbo athlete and world-renowned freeskiing pioneer Glen Plake also will be in attendance at the festival, giving a presentation and skiing throughout the weekend.
Hosted by the Mountaineer shop in Keene Valley, the Adirondack Backcountry Ski Festival, or ABC, celebrates the experience of skiing on natural snow in natural terrain, combining all of the elements of touring, climbing and downhill skiing. “The Backcountry Ski Fest is unique,” says Vinny McClelland, owner of the Mountaineer. “It’s the only event of its kind in the Northeast; most are telemark ski fests at ski areas.”
At the Ski Fest Demo, festival participants will be able to test new goggles from Julbo as well as gear from Dynafit, G3, Black Diamond, Madshus, PrimaLoft, SCARPA, and Outdoor Research. Cloudsplitter Mountain Guides will lead guided tours for different ability levels on Saturday and Sunday.
At 7:30 pm on Saturday evening, Julbo athlete and brand ambassador Glen Plake will captivate festival goers and local students with a presentation on backcountry skiing and mountaineering, which will be held at the Keene Central School. There also will be a raffle with lots of awesome giveaways from “companies that have been enormously generous,” according to McClelland.
Plake, one of the living legends of freeskiing and ski mountaineering, is currently partnering with Julbo to present the Julbo Glen University Session, a contest for aspiring ski alpinists competing to earn a chance to study with the master in his home of Chamonix, France. Plake will also be skiing with anyone who would like to join him at the Keene Valley ski hill this Sunday.
