Michigan’s Tahquamenon Falls State Park to reopen Wednesday, May 30

The primary-use areas of Tahquamenon Falls State Park will reopen to the public on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. The park had been closed since Friday, May 25, due to the Duck Lake Fire in Luce County.

All park facilities south of M-123, including the Upper Falls Viewing Area, Lower Falls Viewing Area, and Lower Falls Campground will be open. However, trails and locations of the park north of M-123 will remain temporarily closed due to the proximity of wildfire and firefighting efforts.

On Friday, May 25, 2012, the park was temporarily closed because of safety concerns due to the Duck Lake Fire. Staff members have been closely monitoring the fire and are now confident that the areas of the park south of M-123 are not at risk and are safe for park visitors.
