    Utah State Parks Events for October

    October 5-6 and 12-13

    Camp Floyd State Parkand Museum -Fairfield

    Johnston’s Army Adventure Camp: Scouts travel back in time to 1858–1861 and enter the world of a soldier with Johnston’s Army. New recruits are processed, mustered into the army and issued uniforms. Camp curriculum is designed to complete the requirements for the American Heritage Merit Badge and the National Historic Trails Award. Camp size is limited to 30 scouts and leaders. Registration is $20 per person and includes all camp materials, breakfast, and overnight stay in replica military tents. Scouts must provide their own sleeping gear. 801-768-8932

    Snow Canyon State Park – Ivins

    Evening Nature Sketch: Admire the changing colors of early evening and enjoy the fun of sketching nature on this 1.5-mile, round-trip hike at 6:30 p.m. Space is limited and registration is required. 435-628-2255

    Dead Horse Point State Park–Moab

    Under A Blanket of Stars: Dead Horse Point State Park hosts some of the darkest skies found in southeastern Utah. The Milky Way Galaxy appears so vivid that some nights you can see purple and green tints as it stretches across the sky. Join us at 7:30 p.m. at the visitor center for a deeper look into the current night sky. Bring a red flashlight, a camp chair and your knowledge to share. 435-259-2614

    Snow Canyon State Park – Ivins

    Monsters in the Desert: Gila monsters are one of the most mysterious and endangered creatures in southwest Utah. Join Wildlife Biologist Ann McLuckie from 10 to 11:30 a.m. as she discusses the biology of these fascinating lizards. Find out how Gila monsters are studied using radio-telemetry and try radio tracking for yourself. Space is limited and registration is required. 435-628-2255
