Metolius Sponsors 20th Annual Hueco Rock Rodeo in Texas

Metolius, makers of the safest and best rock climbing gear around, sponsors the 2013 Hueco Rock Rodeo. The Rock Rodeo, being held at the Hueco Tanks State Historic Site & Park in EL Paso, Texas, takes place this upcoming President’s Day weekend. The lineup will include multiple competitions, clinics and other activities.

“We’ve been a long time sponsor of the Rock Rodeo,” says Brooke Sandahl, Vice President of Metolius Climbing. “The event is directly in line with our climbing passions and we’re proud to support such a good cause.”

Now in its 20th year, what began as a small gathering of climbing enthusiasts has turned into a celebrated festival in the national climbing world. With a total cash prize of $10,000, the event attracts recreational, intermediate, advanced, open and masters-level climbers.

Weekend clinics will be hosted by professional climbers Paige ClaassenNick DuttlePaul Robinson and photographer, Merrick Ales. Additionally, the Rock Rodeo will host the 2nd Hueco Rock Rodeo Youth Competition for younger competitors.

Each competitor will receive Metolius’ premium Super Chalk, which is used by Chris Sharma for all his climbing ventures. Two Crash Pads and Hang Boards will also be donated and raffled off, with proceeds benefiting a local youth outreach program in El Paso, the Cuidad Nueva. The outreach program gives underprivileged youth a chance to visit the Hueco Tanks Historic Site and experience climbing in the outdoors.  Metolius support is also helping the Hueco Rock Ranch reach a goal to raise $10,000 for the Tanks State Historic Site.
