The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Parks and Trails Division is conducting two open houses in May to provide information and receive input about a master plan for the Minnesota River State Trail between Franklin and Le Sueur.

Attendees will be able to get information and give input on potential alignments, development and potential uses and management of the trail.

Open houses are:

• Tuesday, May 7, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Community Center Cafetorium, 600 North German St., New Ulm.
• Thursday, May 9, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Mankato Room, Intergovernmental Center,
  10 Civic Center Plaza, Mankato.

Legislatively authorized in 2002, the Minnesota River State Trail will, when complete, connect Big Stone Lake State Park and Le Sueur. It will connect to the Minnesota Valley State Trail in Le Sueur and the Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail in Mankato. The trail may also connect local trail systems.

The meetings are open to anyone with an interest in this future trail. DNR staff and volunteers involved in planning will be available to answer questions and take comments. No specific alignments have been determined for the trail and no segments are in state ownership.

Master plans guide the development, management and operation of state trails to provide high-quality recreation, transportation and exercise opportunities.
