Torah Bright First to Qualify for Three Olympic Snowboarding Events

    Torah Bright

It’s the first time in Winter Olympic Games history that a snowboarder has qualified for three disciplines, and Torah Bright is ready to take it all on.

The Australian snowboarder will compete in halfpipe, snowboard cross, and slopestyle, the last of which is making its debut at the Games.

Currently, Bright is the halfpipe champion from the last Games in Vancouver, and she hopes to hold on to that title this year. While she only began snowboard cross in 2013, she has competed in more than 12 competitions in the past year, with her best finish being eighth place in Andorra on January 12. It was by the advice of her brother, Ben, who is also her coach, that she began snowboard cross.

“I am thrilled and cannot wait to seize my moments in Sochi,” Bright said in a news release. “A year ago I started the journey where I dared myself to qualify for three snowboard events in the Olympics.

“More than anything, it’s about sharing the sport I love with the world. This has been a journey of exploring what is possible for me on my snowboard and challenging myself like never before. Today I can say that I realized that goal.”
