Slopestyle skiing and snowboarding are new Olympic sports this year in Sochi, as is the Smoking Aces Slopestyle Tour in Montana. Big Sky Resort will host the third stop in the tour called the Ace of Hearts on March 8, 2014 in the Zero Gravity Park near the Madison Base Area of Big Sky Resort.
Competitors in the slopestyle event will ski or snowboard down a run in the Zero Gravity Park, fly off of jumps and slide across manmade features, such as boxes and handrails. They will be judged by a panel of experts based upon difficulty, amplitude and overall impression.
There are five divisions within the Aces of Hearts Slopestyle competition ranging from 12 years old and under to 21 and over to the Open class. Amateur and Open divisions can pre-register online or day of the event. Amateur division is $35 with prizes from event sponsors. The Open division registration cost is $35 and will be competing for a $300 cash purse.
Competitors will also be competing for the chance to become the 2014 Smoking Aces Tour Championship. Four other slopestyle competitions are being held across Montana in addition to the Big Sky Resort Ace of Hearts Slopestyle. There are Aces of Clubs Slopestyle, Joker’s Wild Rail Jam, Ace of Diamonds Slopestyle, and Ace of Spades Championship. Each competitor will acquire points based off of their finishes.
The skier or snowboarder in each division whom has acquired the most points after the culmination of the tour championship event will be crowned Tour Champion on March 22, 2014.
