New Titanium Ti-Arc Backpack Revives the Traditional External Frame Pack

Vargo, known for its ultralight titanium backpacking gear, has added the first titanium external frame backpack in the United States, the Ti-Arc, to its product line.

Vargo is excited to announce that its titanium Ti-Arc External Frame Backpack is officially added to its product line. Known for its innovative ultralight titanium backpacking gear, Vargo is breaking into the backpack market with its recreation of the traditional external frame backpack to help customers reduce the weight of one of the “Big Three” in backpacking (pack, shelter, and sleeping system) while maximizing carrying comfort.

“Recreating and reviving the external frame backpack by pairing titanium with an innovative design is a challenge that we have wanted to pursue for years,” said a Vargo representative. “Finally, we have created a pack that lives up to our expectation of maximum comfort at minimum weight. We are proud to offer the Ti-Arc in the Vargo product line.”

Utilizing a lightweight, formfitting titanium alloy frame with an integrated lumbar support plate and streamlined design, Vargo has created a hybrid pack that incorporates the benefits of both internal and external frames to provide more support at less weight than other backpacks. Additional features such as ample pockets for organization, an adjustable ventilated shoulder harness, and arc-shaped bag help bridge the gap between the two pack styles.

Traditionally, external frame backpacks were used almost exclusively until the late 1970’s. Since then, internal frame backpacks have gained enormous popularity for their lightweight, contoured design.

Fast forward to the first titanium external frame backpack in the United States: the Vargo Ti-Arc. This pack retains the original features of the traditional pack, such as allowing more airflow between the pack and the user, offering greater organization with outer pockets and the ability to strap bulky objects to the frame. It also allows for a more upright walking posture and better vertical load transfer to the hips and legs. But like an internal frame backpack, the ergonomic lumbar support plate helps the Ti-Arc contour to the user’s back while providing sag-free comfort.

The Ti-Arc, designed for a maximum load of 30 lbs., has a lighter frame and overall lighter weight than other external frames. And unlike most externals, the Ti-Arc’s curved top bar can be removed for easier packing and traveling yet still providing excellent weight suspension. The curve also helps decrease snags on passing trail obstacles.

The Ti-Arc will make customers rethink their backpack options. Visit the Ti-Arc Backpack page to learn more. The 100% Vargo Guarantee is offered on all Vargo products.
