Imagine pirouetting on the side of a building. Or landing an aerial on a billboard. The vertical dancing group Bandaloop is doing just that.
This unique grouop is taking dancing to new heights, leaving the dance floor behind and instead performing their choreography in mid-air with the help of a harness. “They say what we do is death-defying. I’d say it’s life-affirming,” founder and choreographer Amelia Rudolph said on the group’s website. Rudolph hopes that this new approach will lead to a bright future for the classic discipline.
Bandaloop’s website is full of amazing performance videos, but recently one clip of Rudolph and dance partner Roel Seeber waltzing beautifully across Oakland’s City Hall has been receiving some viral attention. The pair makes it look easy, flipping and spinning through the air with abandon to a love song. It’s hard to watch them without being awestruck not just by their bravery, but also by their talent.
