Video: Best of ‘The Hippie Jump’

Marc Swoboda gets massive air during "The Hippie Jump."

Get your daily dose of high-air adrenaline with snowboarder Marc Swoboda.

Red Bull recently released a short film called The Hippie Jump that not only shows off the Austrian’s shredding skills, but also tells the story of his journey within the industry. The focus, however, is on fun, and that’s exactly what this jump-junkie loves.

But what exactly is the Hippie Jump?

Conceived by Swoboda, the event was actually named after a skateboarding trick where the skater jumps over an obstacle while his board rolls under it. This type of trick requires massive air, something that many snowboarders also aim for in their jumps. So, this was Swoboda’s focus when building the arena and choosing the attendees.

Basically, the film is chock full of fun-loving snowboarders hitting hips, or corners, with so much speed that they’re launched a good 30 feet in the air. Sure, many of the guys who Swoboda rides with add in their own flair—grabbing their boards or spinning as they soar—but the idea is to reach that moment of weightlessness and achieve the ever-coveted sensation of flying.

As you might have guessed, the footage of such daring tricks is unbelievable. Check out this shorter version, which compiles Swoboda’s and his friends’ most masterful tricks.
