Airlines are getting more and more strict with their baggage policies these days. So much so that it’s hard to carry on a laptop much less a surfboard.
Well, you won’t have to worry about lugging around a surfboard if you own one of these collapsible surfboards. Now before we get too far into collapsible boards they are not a replacement for your existing surfboard. They are designed to be as portable as possible and they do not offer the same riding experience as traditional designs. However, they excel at portability and if being able to transport your surfboard is the difference between riding and not then the choice is obvious.
Collapsible surfboard designs have been around since the 1960’s and they have used a variety of technologies. Some more modern designs have employed advanced materials like carbon fiber and other composites. Even with modern technology, the collapsible surfboard has never been mainstream. In fact, there are no manufacturers producing collapsible boards today. If you want one like the video below you have two real options. You can either custom make one yourself with a board blank, or you can have an expert build custom make one for you.
I really hope these designs evolve enough so that one day I can bring my surfboard with me in my carry-on luggage
