    Drone Surfing, a New Sport?

As water sport fans, we’ve all at some point wished we, or one of our mates, has had a speedboat to take the lake on a nice day for wake skating or wakeboarding. Sadly, with the cost of fuel (and not to mention the cost of the boat!) it quickly becomes an expensive hobby.

However, could drone surfing become the new alternative, when you’ve not got your own personal boat driver?

We can’t imagine it will be widely adopted anytime soon and we’re also not sure on the legalities of it, but in a video by drone manufacturer, Freely Systems, we think we’ve seen a small glimpse into the future of water boarding sports.

The video was posted to YouTube earlier this month and has already clocked nearly 600,000 views. The skimboard, ridden by professional kite surfer, Henning Sandstrom, glides over the calm waters of Dash Point Park in Tacoma.

One of the main reasons we can’t see this sport catching onto the mass market soon? Sandstrom was being pulled by a drone costing around $17,000. So, although it may take a while before it catches on, we certainly can see the attraction!
