Hydro-Photon, Inc., the leader in handheld UV portable water purification systems, announces the Classic 3, the first SteriPEN model which can be powered by alkaline batteries.
“In addition to modified circuitry allowing for effective operation with readily available alkaline batteries, we created a sleek and ergonomic SteriPEN that is more watertight than previous models with enhanced LED status indicators and an easy twist-off cap,” says Miles Maiden, CEO, founder of Hydro-Photon, Inc. and the inventor of handheld UV water purifiers.
With SteriPEN Classic 3, one set of four alkaline batteries will treat 100 half-liters or 50 full liters of water. You can still supercharge your SteriPEN with lithium batteries and you’ll treat up to 150 liters using just one set. “By increasing the number of treatments resulting from one set of batteries, we make the Class 3 an even more economical choice and we decrease the number of batteries ending up as waste,” says Miles Maiden.
Like all SteriPEN UV water purifiers, SteriPEN Classic 3 is simple to use: Just remove the lamp cover, press the activation button, submerge in water and stir. In 48 seconds you have ½ liter of safe drinking water or purify a full liter in 90 seconds. Compared to standard chemical treatments that can take up to four hours, that’s safe water fast without adding chemicals that can leave an unpleasant aftertaste.
SteriPEN Classic 3 will be available in select outdoor stores in Summer, 2014.
