Digital Lumens, the leader in intelligent LED lighting systems, today announced that it has been recognized with a Silver level Bicycle Friendly Business award by the League of American Bicyclists, joining more than 800 businesses from across the country.

With the announcement of 150 new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses today in 39 states and Washington, D.C., Digital Lumens joins a cutting-edge group of more than 800 local businesses, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies across the United States that are transforming the American workplace.

“Visionary business leaders are recognizing the real-time and long term impact that a culture of bicycling can create,” said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. “We applaud this new round of businesses for investing in a more sustainable future for the country and a healthier future for their employees.”

From the company’s founding, Digital Lumens employees have been avid cyclists, building a culture of enthusiasts with nearly 50% of their current workforce cycling to work. The company’s commitment to cycling is demonstrated in its culture, benefits, and recent recognitions. Digital Lumens encourages cycling as an easy option for transportation and provides amenities including a bike rack, repair station, showers, and the expertise of a former bicycle mechanic. Digital Lumens also has a fleet of loaner bikes that employees can use any time, in addition to providing fully subsidized memberships to Hubway, Boston’s bike share program. In June, Digital Lumens won the MassCommute Bicycle Challenge for companies of 1-100 employees after finishing in third place the previous year.

“The entire Digital Lumens family is truly honored to be recognized as a Bicycle Friendly BusinessSM by the League of American Bicyclists. Cycling is deeply rooted in our company culture – on both weekdays and weekends – and is an activity that actively brings together employees from every team, helping to create a strong culture across the company,” said Colin Piepgras, Digital Lumens’ co-Founder and VP of Engineering…and avid cyclist. “Our products provide massive energy savings and environmental benefits, so it is no surprise that so many members of the Digital Lumens family embrace energy-efficient and environmentally friendly transportation.”

Beyond commuting, Digital Lumens’ cycling excursions include occasional lunchtime rides in Boston, as well as cycling with customers and partners when the opportunity arises, and competitive cycling (time trials, road races, cyclocross, and triathalons). With a growing base of enthusiasts, Digital Lumens employees are eager to encourage their biking colleagues by helping to find bike routes, sharing safety tips, and providing advice on equipment.
